This exhibition invites you to delve into various facets of life in Mons from 1850 to 1950, through a wealth of rare and often unknown images. From porcelain cards to lithographed posters, this look at the past brings together some 150 documents illustrated by artists, painters and draughtsmen, mainly from Mons. The ensemble offers a graphic anthology that bears witness to both the atmosphere of the period and the creation of a prestigious heritage.

 

Based on the research carried out by Éric Van den Abeele for his book Mons en images. La cité du Doudou autrement, the exhibition draws on the collections of the Mundaneum, the City of Mons Archives, the Artothèque, the UMons Library, the Letterenhuis in Antwerp, as well as private collections.
